Subtracting Money

The Kakariki maths group have been learning to solve subtraction problems.

They have been shopping with $10 and working out how much change they will have left.

They worked so well independently practicing their subtraction and writing their number stories.

Chicken writing

We were so lucky to have some visitors at school. Harkirat brought in her chickens.
The Kakabeak Kids were fantastic authors. Read some of their stories about the chickens.
The baby chickens squeaked when we were quiet and the chicks were scared of us. There was a white chicken and one was spotty and they tried to fly when Mrs H tried to pick it up. They had some chicken food. Mrs Bassett had to clean the poop up from the ground in our classroom floor.
Author Hanna
Aww! 3 little chickens. They are so cute. They are baby chickens. Two of the chickens are white and one is a black chicken and one of the chickens are colourful. I love the black one. "Get back here"said Mrs H. Mrs H put the food by the chickens. They went to the food. Mrs H grabbed the white one. They pooed on the classroom mat. Slimy yucky poo.
Author Cody
I can see the box. It was 3 chickens. The chickens pooed on the floor.
Author Dilpreet
Squeak squeak went the chicks. One of the chicks had some feathers. They can only fly a little bit. They were baby chicks but they couldn't fly yet. They will grow up. They had food from Harkirat's Mum. They were white and one was spotty and one was white and black.
Author Eliana

Wow we got to see chicks. They tried to flap their wings. They had wonderful feathers on their feet. They eat grains in the morning and night. They played around with each other. The best is the white fluffy one. One looked speckled and the other looked like an eagle with patterns and one was white and fluffy. They pecked each other with their sharp beak. The have shiny claws. The surprise was they all pooed.
Author Arkalias

Squeak went the chickens. I like their feathers. Next the white chicken came along to me. The baby chickens were cute. When a chicken tried to fly they dropped to the ground. I like them because they are fluffy. Finally they are going back to their house.
Author Eliza

I have chickens at my home. We have a box with chook food inside. Everyday we feed the chickens. the chickens have fluffy feathers they also have fluffy feet. They don't lay eggs anymore. I want eggs they are my favourite. When the chickens got born their feet came out. The chickens ran with the egg still on them.

Jumping

We have been learning about jumping.

We figured out that to do the best jumps we need to
Bend our knees and swing our arms back
Swing our arms forward and up 2 feet leave the ground together
Bend our knees to land 2 feet land together

Our challenge was to create an obstacle course for people to practice jumping. We worked so well collaboratively. Watch the video to see some amazing obstacle courses created by the Kakabeak Kids.
